The newly elected leader of the Greens, Ricarda Lang, has criticized statements by FDP leader Christian Lindner to relax the corona rules. “I don’t believe in an outbidding competition for easing requirements,” Lang told the Berliner Tagesspiegel (Sunday edition). Citizens have already experienced enough “empty promises and hasty actions” during the pandemic, she said.

The liberals are pushing for easing steps, among other things, 2G should no longer apply as an access restriction in shops. Lang rejected this request. “As long as we still have increasing incidences and a tense situation in the clinics, we still need patience. Now is not the right time to relax,” she told the Tagesspiegel.

However, the Green leader wants to develop a perspective for easing using a step-by-step plan. “This requires stage models based on stable data, so that people and especially sectors such as culture and retail can plan with certainty,” said Lang.

The 28-year-old had contracted the corona virus herself in the past week, but remained symptom-free. Lang also spoke out again in favor of a general obligation to vaccinate. “The higher the vaccination rate, the more normality is possible,” said the Green politician. A compulsory vaccination thus creates more freedom for everyone in Germany.
