Many farmers in Bavaria are angry about Aldi’s advertising campaign with the advertising slogan “Change of attitude” and protested in front of Aldi branches. They demand fairness in price negotiations with farmers and denounce the discounter’s double standards, along the lines of: “The group spends a lot of money on advertising, but ALDI refuses to pay farmers fairly for animal welfare.”

To that says Ralph Stadler, agricultural policy spokesman for the AfD parliamentary group in the Bavarian state parliament:

“In the campaign, Aldi presents itself as a supposed pioneer for animal welfare, but the discounter does not want to pay more for it. Instead, farmers are presented with a fait accompli, because Aldi announced that from 2030 it will only offer fresh meat from husbandry levels 3 and 4 This should also apply to milk from 2024, which will hit small dairy farmers particularly hard.

Farmers would have to spend a lot of money to convert the stables to animal welfare. Farmers therefore need reliable framework conditions, cost-covering prices and long-term purchase commitments, otherwise ALDI’s advertising campaign will remain an empty promise to consumers and farmers. We at the AfD have been involved in numerous initiatives for rural agriculture in the Bavarian state parliament and will continue to do so. We demand fair prices for animal welfare and say no to Aldi’s dumping model. Maybe it’s about time to talk to the AfD.”
