Next Tuesday, February 8, 2022, the first pharmacies will offer COVID-19 vaccinations. “We assume that the number of vaccinating pharmacies will gradually increase. A four-digit number has already reported to their respective state chamber of pharmacists that they meet the personnel, spatial and insurance requirements for vaccination. We assume that several hundred pharmacies will next week start with the vaccinations,” says Gabriele Regina Overwiening, President of ABDA – the Federal Union of German Pharmacists’ Associations. “And a total of a good 6,000 pharmacists have now completed the necessary training.” Whether and when a pharmacy offers COVID-19 vaccinations is decided by the pharmacy management itself, depending on the development of the demand situation. “If the STIKO should recommend another booster vaccination, the demand will certainly increase significantly again,” says Overwiening.
If you are looking for a pharmacy nearby that offers COVID-19 vaccinations, you can find them quickly and easily via the portal www.mein-apothekenmanager.de, which is operated by the German Association of Pharmacists (DAV). The search function will be available from Tuesday and the data will be constantly updated.
In order to be able to offer COVID-19 vaccinations, pharmacies have to meet a whole range of requirements: advanced training must be completed, which also includes first aid in emergencies, special premises must be set up and liability insurance must be maintained. The existence of the requirements must be reported to the responsible state chamber of pharmacists. In addition, vaccinations carried out must be passed on to the RKI’s vaccination surveillance department via an interface on a daily basis.
