The German Cancer Aid fears that from the end of this year more people than usual will die of cancer in Germany. The reason for this is that as a result of the corona pandemic, fewer cancers were detected and treated in good time.

The parliamentary manager and health policy spokesman for the AfD parliamentary group in the Bavarian state parliament, Andrew Winhart, comments on this as follows:

“The one-sided fixation on Corona could put a heavy burden on many people’s health. As the Chairman of the Board of the German Cancer Aid, Gerd Nettekoven, announced, the number of inpatient cancer treatments in 2020 fell by six percent to 1.45 million. In April 2020, at the beginning of the Corona crisis, mammography screening for early detection of breast cancer was even suspended to avoid contact. However, cancer is far more dangerous than corona infection. Because of this irrational shift in priorities, people who would have treated early under normal circumstances are suffering This is not due to the virus, but to misguided, panic-driven politics.

As the AfD, we are all the more emphatically calling on the Bavarian state government to finally take a look at reality. In this there is not only Corona, but many other problems and challenges that have to be mastered. The AfD is ready to do this – pragmatic and solution-oriented.”
