With net sales of EUR 152.0 million, the Mestemacher Group grew by 3.1 percent in 2021 compared to the previous year 2020 (147.4 million net sales). Consolidated sales of EUR 155 million are planned for the current 2022 financial year. This corresponds to growth of 2 percent. The increase in net sales also results from the stable preference for convenience and from the demand for health and climate-conscious nutrition.

In 2021, the family business invested EUR 8.0 million in the long term. The investments bring further benefits for product quality, automation, rationalization, capacity expansion and humanization of work. An investment of EUR 15.2 million is planned for 2022.

The group of companies employs a total of 667 people. The export share is around 31 percent. Of these, 74 percent of export sales are generated in the member states of the European Union. Mestemacher sells 17 percent of the export volume outside of Europe – especially to North America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Asia and the United Arab Emirates. Mestemacher delivers 9 percent of the export volume of self-service packaged bread and baked goods to European countries that do not belong to the EU.

The Mestemacher Group has started preparations for a SMETA social audit and an environmental management audit in accordance with the ISO 14001 standard. The indicative timetable puts the end of the preparations for the audits at the end of 2023/beginning of 2024.

Mestemacher supplies the bread departments of food retailers in Germany and in over 80 countries around the world with Westphalian pumpernickel, high protein specialties, seed bread specialties without yeast and flour, organic and conventional wholemeal rye breads and international bread specialties such as Italian organic wraps, Italian organic spelled wraps, Organic wholemeal wheat toast, organic spelled toast, Indian Naan bread specialties baked tandoori style, gourmet focaccia specialties, pita breads and wraps.

Mestemacher operates its own mill, in which organic rye and conventional rye are freshly ground into wholemeal rye meal before baking. While conventional types of flour lose valuable ingredients, rye meal remains rich in minerals such as potassium and phosphorus as well as B vitamins.

The planned investments of over 15 million euros in 2022 modernize and stabilize the productive and economic performance of the Mestemacher Group. The Mestemacher Group remains a reliable value-added partner for retailers, employees, suppliers of upstream services and municipal organizations.
