Unknown dead from the North Sea: Investigators start an international search 28 years after the body was found

Possible murder victim discovered in the sea in 1994 – New facial reconstruction

Osnabruck. The police in Wilhelmshaven and the public prosecutor’s office in Oldenburg want to start an international public investigation today, Tuesday, February 1st. As the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung” reports, the aim is to clarify the identity of a man who was found dead in the North Sea west of Heligoland in the summer of 1994 and who was probably the victim of a crime. The investigators plan to put extensive image material online – including photos of the clothing, but also a facial reconstruction of the unknown, who is said to have been between 45 and 50 years old at the time of the crime. With appropriate clues to the identity of the victim, the investigators hope to possibly get on the trail of the murderer.

Although the case had been rolled up again and again in recent years, there was no hot lead. In the course of a cold case course at the police academy in Nienburg, the new call for witnesses was initiated with international specialists. As the “NOZ” further reports, the police in Lower Saxony assume that the man had connections to Great Britain based on the clothing on the corpse. According to the newspaper, the body was exhumed in December for a new forensic examination.
