At the Berlin Charité, people infected with corona will no longer be treated in special Covid 19 wards. As rbb24 learned exclusively on Tuesday, those affected should be isolated decentrally at the respective specialist station from Wednesday if they actually came to the clinic because of another illness.

“Through this organization, patients can be treated immediately, even if the number of cases increases in the specialist area of their underlying disease,” explained company spokesman Markus Heggen. “The exception to this is treatment in the intensive care units, which will continue to be carried out centrally.”

The Charité is thus reacting to the increasing number of corona cases as a result of the omicron variant. So far, specialists have had to go to the Corona ward to treat their patients if they break a leg or rupture an appendix.

The Covid 19 situation in the university hospital is still tense, said Heggen. An increasing number of employees are in isolation or in quarantine. The situation can only be managed because all planned interventions have been canceled.
