United States: Teenager causes accident after driving under the influence of alcohol; leaves six dead

A teenager from 17 years with alcohol levels above the legal limit caused a traffic accident in Palm Beach County, in southern Florida (USA), which left six people deadlocal media reported this Friday.

The event occurred Thursday night near the city of Delray Beach when the young man was driving a car at high speed and hit a truck in which six people were traveling.

As a result of the collision, the truck turned and ended up headfirst on the central berm of the road, while the car driven by the young man turned and ended up on the outside sidewalk, as reported by the local channel WPBF.

Five people inside the van died at the scene of the crash, while the sixth victim was pronounced dead shortly after at a local hospital. The minor suffered minor injuries.

According to local police, none of the six occupants of the truck were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident. Authorities have not released the identities of the victims.

The event occurs after the arrest in Miami of Fernando Altamirano, a 17-year-old who was speeding in a stolen van with which a vehicle with two occupants collided, after passing a “stop” sign at an intersection in the Little Havana neighborhood of this city.

As a result of the accident, 63-year-old Mayra Sánchez lost her life, while the other passenger in the impacted vehicle, Dania Montero, was admitted in critical condition to a local hospital.
