ClickMeeting, the European platform for webinars, training courses and distance learning, draws a conclusion for the year 2021 with the latest report “State of Online Events 2022”. Hybrid teaching and e-learning models continued to be a particular focus. 41 percent of the events that took place on the platform in 2021 were for educational purposes. According to the report, 56% of those surveyed are of the opinion that distance learning should continue to be used even after the pandemic – albeit in a hybrid model of face-to-face and online lessons, so-called blended learning.

The biggest disadvantage of distance learning is the lack of learning material

Many schools and universities, pupils, students and parents had to – and were able – to get used to the new situation to a certain extent over the past two years. However, not all changes were easy to manage. When asked about the biggest disadvantages of distance learning, the majority pointed to a lag in learning material (70%) and a negative impact of the situation on building relationships with peers (67%). Parents were also directly affected: almost 58% indicated that parents had to take on the role of teacher at home. Almost a third also felt that more homework was assigned as a result of distance learning.

Effective Distance Learning: The most popular features among users

In 2021, too, distance learning had to be used in some cases. The most frequently used functions within the ClickMeeting platform in 2021 included presentations (55 percent), screen sharing (17 percent), interactive whiteboards (6 percent), sharing YouTube videos (5.6 percent), video and audio (5.4 percent), and polls and tests (4.7 percent).
