Omid Nouripour, the designated federal chairman of Bündnis 90/Die Grünen, sees the need for immediate measures in view of the high energy costs.
In the ARD-Mittagsmagazin he said on Friday: “We cannot play off social policy and climate protection against each other.” The federal government has agreed that there should be a heating cost subsidy and that the surcharge for renewable energies should also be abolished in order to create further relief, explained Nouripour. He thinks further help is conceivable: “There may also be more if it is needed,” said the Green politician.
At the same time, he campaigned for a medium-term exit from fossil fuels such as gas: “Not just because of climate protection, but because these price drivers mean that we are dependent on completely external, completely different actors,” said Nouripour. If Russia were to supply a third less gas, like last year, then prices would explode, the foreign policy expert explained. “We just have to end this dependency as soon as possible,” says Nouripour.
