Last Monday, 350,000 people across Germany took part in corona-related protests. The Federal Ministry of the Interior gave this number at the request of the ARD political magazine Contrasts. This also includes the number of participants in counter-events. Two weeks earlier, on Monday 10.01. the Federal Ministry of the Interior told the daily newspaper “Die Welt” that the number of participants in corona protests was still 188,000.
The social psychologist Professor Oliver Decker from the University of Leipzig told Kontraste that the corona measures were the trigger for the protests, but they also acted as an amplifier for anti-democratic resentment in parts of the protest movement: “What comes into play here are grown structures and also growing rejection of the democratic system,” says Decker.
The ARD political magazine Kontraste will be broadcasting more on the subject tonight on the first at 9:45 p.m.
