EDM Council, a cross-industry trade association for data management and analytics, has released its latest study “ESG Data Management: Rating Providers and Data Aggregators” – the second report in the ESG data research series. The study was developed by the EDM Council’s ESG Data Working Group. She examines the key challenges of the ESG data supply chain and provides recommendations for RPDAs.
RPDAs play an important role in the collection and analysis of raw data from reporting companies, enabling firms to develop research, assessments, assessments and comparisons of company performance in relation to evolving global ESG goals and objectives. The products and services provided by ESG RPDAs are a vital element of the ESG ecosystem, but they face a number of data management and analysis challenges of their own.
While the usage of ESG products is different, the data supply chain for the RPDAs is essentially the same. This report outlines a six-step RPDA product delivery process through which ESG data challenges were assessed and prioritized. The study then used these steps as a framework to identify 11 current priority challenges and then provide strategic and tactical recommendations for each:
- The complexity of standard setting
- model of governance
- Documenting data points on materiality
- ESG metric effectiveness
- data gaps
- Version control
- Changes and trends in the source data
- Third Party Data
- scenarios and models
- External assurance of ESG data
- ESG data management requirements
“As ESG has become more widespread, the data management challenges for rating providers and data aggregators have also increased. With our latest ESG research, we aim to simplify the supply chain for ESG data and create a common framework within which these companies can operate,” said Eric Bigelsen, EDM Council Head of Industry Engagement and leader of the ESG Working Group. “We want more Bringing clarity and understanding to this evolving sector while demonstrating the benefits of ESG in delivering sustainable outcomes
