After Ukraine scandal: German naval chief Schönbach resigns

After controversial statements on the Ukraine conflict, Admiral Schönbach resigned his post. As the ARD-Capital Studio, the Minister of Defense complied with his request for dismissal.

His irritating statements about the Ukraine conflict have consequences: Germany’s Navy chief Kay-Achim Schönbach has to go. He had asked for his release, that was learned ARD-Capital Studio. The vice admiral had previously expressed understanding for Russian President Vladimir Putin during an appearance in India. He also said about the conflict between Russia and Ukraine: “The Crimean peninsula is gone, it will not come back.” The fact that Russia wants to appropriate Ukrainian territory is “nonsense”.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry therefore summoned the German Ambassador to Ukraine, Anka Feldhusen. The Ministry of Defense in Berlin distanced itself from Schönbach’s statements.
