Wind energy, as Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) put it, should one day be the pack donkey for future power generation. But then an installed capacity of more than 100 gigawatts of onshore wind energy would have to be available nationwide by 2030.

It’s good that Habeck is looking for talks on site and is treating himself to a hard chunk with Bayern this Thursday. The construction of wind turbines has almost come to a standstill here since 2014 due to the introduction of strict distance rules to housing estates and nature reserves. It is remarkable that a Green Party politician is now fighting side by side with the Bavarian economy against the CSU for a relaxation of the regulations. Times change so quickly.
