Alexander Wehrle, Managing Director of 1. FC Köln, has sharply criticized the Corona requirements in North Rhine-Westphalia. The limit of 750 spectators at home games is “completely disproportionate,” said Wehrle in an interview with the “Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger”. “We have a coherent hygiene concept that has been tried and tested for months. Then I would like a rational explanation as to why it should not be possible to allow at least 15,000 spectators,” Wehrle continued.

In total, 1. FC Köln have so far lost 85 million euros in sales due to the corona pandemic. “We already have to pay back a state guarantee, have accumulated considerable outside capital and had to bring forward future sponsorship income. We have to tighten our belts in the next few years,” says Wehrle.
