It is a new high in the third year of the pandemic: According to the RKI, the number of new infections within one day is 80,430. The seven-day incidence has passed the 400 threshold.
The number of new corona infections transmitted to the Robert Koch Institute within one day has exceeded the threshold of 80,000 cases for the first time. According to the RKI, the health authorities in Germany reported 80,430 cases in 24 hours. Exactly one week ago there were 58,912 new infections recorded, with gaps in tests and reports over the course of the holidays.
Seven-day incidence rises to over 400
The RKI gave the seven-day incidence as 407.5. For comparison: the previous day the value was 387.9. A week ago the nationwide incidence was 258.6 (previous month: 390.9).
Regionally, the incidence values are far apart. The federal state of Bremen still has the highest incidence at 1296.8. Berlin follows at a considerable distance, where the value is 856.4. Schleswig-Holstein (633.0) and Hamburg (568.9) also report an incidence of over 500, in the other federal states it is lower. The value is currently lowest at 239.5 in Saxony – the federal state that only recently had the highest values.
It is assumed that these differences are related on the one hand to the spread of the omicron variant, which began earlier in the north, and on the other hand to the greater risk of infection in large cities.

According to the new information, 384 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours. A week ago there were 346 deaths. The number of people who died with or with a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to a total of 114,735.
The number of corona patients admitted to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days was given by the RKI on Tuesday as 3.34 (Monday with 3.37). This so-called hospitalization incidence also fluctuates strongly from region to region. In Bremen it is 29.99. All other federal states report values below 10.
The RKI has counted around 7.6 million detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not recognized.
