Starting this year, Lidl will successively label milk and milk products of its own brands with the husbandry label. As the inventor of the husbandry compass and initiator of the current form of husbandry based on fresh meat and sausage in a further product group, the company thus creates complete transparency across all four husbandry levels, so that customers can consciously choose more animal welfare when buying. First of all, the grocer puts the type of husbandry on the packaging of the drinking milk, which already comes 100 percent from Germany. With this type of husbandry, Lidl can bring customers closer to the services of local farmers for better animal welfare in a simple and understandable way. The higher the housing level, the more space the dairy cows have in the barn and outdoor area.
Thanks to the trusting cooperation with local farmers, the company is already a pioneer in animal welfare in the industry: 100 percent of organic milk is certified according to the highest Bioland standard, 65 percent of the range of drinking milk will in the future be classified as level 3 or 4 50 percent of Lidl branches offer pasture milk as the minimum standard in the fresh area. In order to continue promoting animal welfare, Lidl and its producers will continue to rely on organizations such as Pro Weideland, the German Animal Welfare Association and Bioland in the future.
