Heating allowance for housing benefit recipients falls short
In view of the increased energy prices, the chairperson of the Environment and Consumer Protection working group, Dr. Anja Weisgerber, and the specialist spokesman for consumer protection of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group in the Bundestag, Dr. Volker Ullrich:
Dr. Anja Weisgerber: “The CDU and CSU pursue a sustainable consumer protection policy in which ecological, social and economic aspects are brought under one roof. Under the currently extremely high energy prices, not only companies but also consumers in particular have to struggle with low household incomes. The traffic light -Government must quickly find an answer to the skyrocketing energy prices. Instead of distributing the income with the watering can via the bureaucratic monster citizen’s money, the traffic light should quickly abolish the EEG surcharge and promote the switch to climate-friendly technologies. “
Dr. Volker Ullrich: “The proposal of the Ampel government to introduce a flat-rate heating cost subsidy for recipients of housing allowances falls short. Especially in connection with the high inflation, the rising energy costs are a major challenge for people with small and medium incomes. The planned aid will reach around 700,000 households in Germany. However, many more households are seriously affected by rising energy prices. In addition, we know that even many beneficiaries often do not apply for housing benefit and that the help is not widely available to those who need it. Your situation is now getting through The bankruptcy or termination of some cheap electricity suppliers worsens, which throws them back on the more expensive basic supply. Consumers affected should therefore seek advice and support from the consumer advice centers in order to obtain further supplies or possible claims for damages against their suppliers obtain.
At the same time, the layoffs and failures of the electricity and gas providers are a warning sign for politicians that the current market and regulatory environment is giving energy suppliers false incentives to focus too much on low spot market prices. Last but not least, the high energy price level also endangers Germany as a business location in the long term. It is incomprehensible that the traffic light, with the prospect of further rising energy prices, relies on one-off grants instead of long-term solutions. “
