Up until now, the 3G rule applied in the plenary hall – anyone who had been vaccinated, recovered or had just been tested was allowed to enter the hall. Those who refused the rapid test and did not want to disclose their vaccination status could take part in the sessions of the Bundestag from the stands. 3G now applies to the seats in the stands.

This is only logical: 2G and 2G-plus rules apply across the country for good reason. In parts of the population there are already enough problems with the acceptance of these measures. It doesn’t help if the Bundestag sets a bad example and allows laxer rules to apply in its own ranks. In addition, 2G plus and the FFP2 mask requirement, which will also apply from Wednesday, protect the members of the Bundestag and employees – which is urgently necessary, especially in view of the Omikron variant.
