Earthquake in Indonesia: earthquake of magnitude 7.3 registered

A 7.3 magnitude earthquake shook the shores of Indonesia in the early hours of Thursday local time, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said.

There were no immediate reports of tsunami alerts or damage or casualties after the earthquake in the Indonesian province of Maluku.

The earthquake on the high seas was recorded from 3:25 local time (1825 GMT on Wednesday), at a depth of 166 kilometers, about 120 kilometers northeast of the city of Lospalos, according to the USGS statement.

Indonesia has frequent tremors due to its location in the Pacific “Ring of Fire”, an area of ​​intense seismic activity where tectonic plates collide, stretching from Japan through Southeast Asia and across the Pacific basin.
