The television council unanimously approved the balanced budget of the ZDF for the 2022 financial year. The financial plan closes with a total result of minus 105 million euros. This amount is covered as planned from the reserve set up for this purpose.
In his speech on household advice, ZDF director Dr. Thomas Bellut on the good acceptance values for ZDF. Bellut: “The main program is by far the most-watched broadcaster in Germany. The high level of acceptance extends to the program family as a whole. As things stand, we overtook both private broadcaster groups for the first time by the end of the year. The pandemic in particular shows that it is in society there is a great need for reliable information, lively culture, but also relaxing entertainment. “
With a view to the current media policy discussion about the mandate and structural optimization of public broadcasting, Bellut declared that the importance of entertaining programs should not be underestimated. Bellut: “Quiz shows convey knowledge. TV films address socio-political issues. Comedy and satire also convey information. Entertainment must therefore remain an elementary component of our mission.”
With a market share of 14.8 percent (as of December 7, 2021), ZDF will again be the most successful program on the German TV market in 2021. ARD is 12.1 percent, RTL 7.3 percent and Sat1 5.2 percent. The ZDF program family achieved its highest market share to date of 21.4 percent in the past year. The program family includes the main program, ZDFneo and ZDFinfo. In addition, there are half the market shares of the partner channels 3sat, Arte, Phoenix and KiKa. The ARD program family is currently 29.5 percent, the RTL group 21.1 percent and PRO7 / SAT1 Media 16.2 percent
