The decision was made in the fourth ballot: The Broadcasting Council appointed the new director of the Hessian Broadcasting Corporation on Friday. Florian Hager will take up his position next March.

The hr-Rundfunkrat elected Florian Hager in the meeting on Friday with 18 votes from 32 members present as the successor of Manfred Krupp. He prevailed against HR operations director Stephanie Weber. Hager, currently Deputy ARD Program Director, will take up office on March 1, 2022. His term of office was set at five years by the Broadcasting Council. HR director Manfred Krupp will retire at the end of February 2022.

Hager, born on April 17, 1976 in Aalen, studied media technology, computer science and multimedia at the Stuttgart Media University as well as journalism and film studies in Paris and Mainz. He worked as a consultant for the Arte President and the Director for European Satellite Programs at ZDF.

Hager was then Deputy Program Director and Head of Program Planning TV and Web at Arte in Strasbourg. In 2015, Hager became the founding managing director of funk, the youth service from ARD and ZDF. Hager has been designing the ARD media library as deputy program director and channel manager since 2020.

Four ballots between Hager and Stephanie Weber
