Frank Appel and Monika Schaller receive “Sustainable Future Award 2021”
FAZ-Institut and Cision Germany award new prize to Deutsche Post DHL Group / Retrospective analysis determines credible and exemplary behavior as a sustainable company
The newly launched “Sustainable Future Award” from the FAZ Institute and Cision Germany goes to Dr. Frank Appel, CEO and Monika Schaller, Head of Corporate Communications, Social Responsibility and Brand at Deutsche Post DHL Group. The award is based on a multi-year analysis of media coverage, during which the credibility of manager statements was checked. Among other things, it was determined how reliably promises made by companies were kept. Accordingly, the evaluated data reached back to 2014.
In the reason given by Manuela Schreckenbach, Head of Analysis at Cision Germany, it says: “No other CEO has brought his group on such a long-term and consistent journey on a sustainable journey and not only kept his promises, but sharpened them.”
Around half of the reports on Frank Appel deal with ESG topics. His actions are rated extremely positively by the journalists. It is clear that his goal is to “make a greener company out of his yellow company”. Examples are the expansion of the electric fleet, alignment with UN climate targets, CO2 reduction and investments in social projects.
Swiss Post raised the targets it once mentioned again this year. In the laudatory speech by Managing Director Thomas Leitner, it is said: “It is always easy to talk about goals in many years. However, adhering to them can only be checked in retrospect.” A look over the last few years has shown: “What Deutsche Post DHL had promised since 2014 has been followed by concrete action.”
Monika Schaller and her team succeeded in convincingly and credibly conveying their diverse commitment both internally and externally. In addition, Deutsche Post DHL is an example of how a consistent sustainability strategy also brings business success. “It’s about what a company actually does and not about what it says. No announcement PR, but implement it and then communicate it transparently,” said the winner when the certificates were presented.
