Although the current Corona situation is more than dramatic, the tour operators are sticking to their high expectations for the tourism year 2022. The summer business in particular should be a major source of revenue. At TUI, it is expected that the level of the pre-Corona year 2019 will be reached again in summer. DER Touristik has similar goals. The competitors Alltours, FTI and Schauinsland-Reisen are also optimistic.
The prognosis of the organizers is not entirely unjustified. It also has to do with the strong bookings in early autumn. These were also positive in the travel agencies. At Wolfgang Neumann from the Neumann travel agency in Ostbevern, the demand in September and October was so good that in the meantime a booking increase of over 200 percent was on the books.
However, it is problematic that the early autumn plus due to the current corona situation is melting again. But the counter remains hopeful. “We saw how hungry customers are for travel. As soon as the Corona situation improves, we will experience a rush of bookings, ”was what was repeatedly heard at the most recent conferences.
However, this onslaught could also cause problems again. Because there have been intermediate highs in the booking phases during the corona pandemic in the recent past. The result: IT systems smeared, organizer hotlines were overloaded and urgent RQ inquiries were still not answered after days. “I can only appeal that IT providers and organizers do their homework and prepare for D-Day,” says a TUI salesman, not only with regard to his lead organizer.
