Started as an initiative of the Federal President in 2001, Jugend debattiert is today the largest private-public program for linguistic and political education at secondary schools in Germany. Lessons, training and competitions are carried out according to uniform nationwide rules.

Together with its partners, the Hertie Foundation has big plans for the next few years: There will be more digital offers, and younger people will also be able to take part in youth debates in the future. At the same time, the international community has grown significantly. With Mexico and Canada, the number of participating countries in which the program takes place in German foreign language teaching has risen to almost 40. The interest is very high due to the didactic quality and the imparting of democratic skills; because democracy needs good debates.

If you would like to get a lively impression of the impact and quality of the program, you are cordially invited to the live broadcast of our first online world debate.
