Sustainable Wood Energy Forum

Berlin (ots)

The Forum for Sustainable Wood Energy welcomes the results of the present coalition agreement of the traffic light parties with regard to climate protection and the energy transition. The forum shares the view that a national biomass strategy is actually required in order to be able to effectively use sustainable wood energy to decarbonise electricity and heat generation as well as industry.

Sustainable wood energy should be an integral part of the energy transition in order to achieve climate neutrality more easily. In contrast to photovoltaics and wind energy, it is the only renewable, retrievable and base-load capable technology on an industrial scale. By using sustainable wood energy, especially with combined heat and power, considerable amounts of CO2 can be saved. In light of the targeted phase-out of coal in 2030, sustainable wood energy can therefore play an important role in being able to reconcile the achievement of climate targets and the guarantee of security of supply.
