The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, together with the Korea Creative Content Agency, launched the ‘Culture, Sports and Tourism Technology Promotion Center’, an integrated research and management institution, on November 9.

In the future, the Technology Promotion Center will provide planning, management, and evaluation functions for R&D, which were carried out by the Korea Creative Content Agency (contents), Korea Copyright Commission (copyright), National Sports Promotion Agency (sports), and Korea Culture and Tourism Institute (tourism), respectively. integrated promotion and management. Through this, the R&D management expertise will be enhanced and similar overlapping projects will be prevented in advance for more efficient R&D. In addition, R&D investment will be strengthened in response to the emergence and diffusion of new technologies. Recently, while the qualitative level of metaverse, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), artificial intelligence (AI), and big data is gradually increasing, the scope of its application is also greatly expanding. Accordingly, the Ministry of Civil Affairs will invest a total of KRW 132.8 billion (based on the 2022 government proposal) in R&D in the fields of culture, sports, and tourism to respond to these technological changes. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism applies the latest technology to the three fields to increase utilization and to develop and disseminate leading core technologies in promising fields that are expected to grow rapidly in the future.
