COVID vaccine: US approves immunizing children ages 5 to 11

Health authorities of The United States today gave the final endorsement of the Pfizer vaccine against COVID-19 for children 5 to 11 years.

A few days after being approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the vaccine was recommended Tuesday by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the last step to begin vaccination in this age group and in doses that are only a third of the amount applied to adolescents and adults

The announcement by CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky came hours after a advisory panel decided unanimously that Pfizer vaccines should be approved for the 28 million children of that age group in the country.

Millions of doses of the vaccine developed by Pfizer and its partner BioNTech have already been shipped to states, doctors’ offices and pharmacies, prior to CDC endorsement.
