the, the world’s leading company in safety science and one of the world’s leading providers of tests, inspections and certification for projects in the field of renewable energy, has received certification orders from Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) for the company’s most advanced turbine concepts. The SG5.8-170 and SG5.8-155 wind turbines are part of the new 5.X onshore platform from SGRE and, with a capacity of 5.8 MW and rotor diameters of 170 and 155 meters, are among the largest turbines in the global onshore Wind industry.

An accredited body must certify the electrical properties of wind turbines in order to guarantee reliable and safe power generation. By certifying the type characteristics and complying with grid connection requirements for markets such as Spain, Germany and the UK, UL will help ensure that SGRE’s reliable, innovative turbine technologies are used across Europe.

“Confirming that new turbine technologies can support the power grid while optimizing power generation is critical to accelerating wind farm development and Europe’s green energy transition,” said Kai Grigutsch, Head of Wind Certification at UL. “We are proud to partner with Siemens Gamesa to drive the adoption of safe and reliable wind energy.”

For the global rollout of the 5.X onshore platform, SGRE selected UL as a strategic procurement supplier in order to benefit from UL’s extensive experience in complying with international grid standards. SL is also designed to help SGRE manage safety, reliability and performance risks for their turbines.

“We were looking for a trusted strategic supplier who would help us efficiently certify our latest turbine design platform for international use and support our customers,” said Irene Alli Oños, SGRE Director of SG5.X Certification. Our cooperation with UL enables us to quickly meet market-specific certification requirements. We look forward to working with them and continuing to develop industry-leading turbine designs. “
