Club vacation: “The market is slowly recovering” | current tourism

Club vacation providers are confident about the future. The very short-term booking behavior and the hesitation of customers when booking long-haul destinations still determine the market. Far away regions are sometimes left out.

Bernd Mäser, Managing Director of Robinson and TUI Magic Life, sums it up: “In the summer, our clubs in the Mediterranean were particularly popular”. This is also confirmed by Christian Grage, head of the hotel subsidiary of DER Touristik, which also includes the club brand Calimera, and has announced a new addition: In May 2022, the four-star Calimera Balansat complex on Ibiza will open with a new concept. The family-friendly resort is just a few meters from the sandy beach of Puerto de San Miguel.

Club Med also wants to grow. The four-trident resort Magna Marbella on the Andalusian coast will also be new to the portfolio from May next year. This means that the provider is again represented in Spain after more than 20 years.

Meanwhile, Holger Schweins, managing director of Frosch Sportreisen, has announced a new sports club in Ischgl for the winter. And three new clubs in the Mediterranean area are also to be added to the program in the summer.

Light at the end of the tunnel?

“We are assuming that we will at least reach the level from 2019 in 2022”, estimates Christian Grage optimistically. He predicts a comeback for Turkey, Egypt and Tunisia. “A lot is currently being done in the countries to start a successful 2022 season”. His colleague from TUI remarks: “People want to travel again and that is clearly evident in the bookings for the coming year.”

Club Med’s booking figures also suggest a revival of long-haul routes. “In addition to the Seychelles, the resorts in the Dominican Republic and the Maldives are being booked,” says Germany boss Nathalie Rohmer.

“The market is slowly recovering. Of course, the pre-pandemic level has not yet been reached, but we are very happy that we were able to reopen all Aldiana systems, ”says Aldiana managing director Stefanie Brandes. And she announces interesting news for sales: “Our travel agency partners can look forward to a very special kind of information trip.”
