NRW Health Minister Karl-Josef Laumann (CDU) wants to speed up the booster vaccinations and called on the municipalities in NRW on Tuesday to create vaccination centers in addition to their previous vaccination offers.

The NRW Ministry of Health will “now call on the districts and independent cities to activate the concepts for nationwide booster vaccinations and thus to create additional vaccination options in addition to the doctor’s surgeries,” the ministry explained to the Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung (Wednesday editions). That means: The districts and urban districts should – in addition to the ongoing mobile vaccinations – independently set up stationary vaccination centers.

“The established medical profession does a good job. For me that is out of the question. The two statutory health insurance associations and I are equally of the opinion that we can get even faster. That is why we are now stepping on the gas together,” Laumann told WAZ. “For this we no longer need the old-style vaccination centers, which would be oversized for this task. We will create the conditions for local vaccination centers that are close to the people.” The concepts for this would be in the drawer with the districts and independent cities. These would now be activated on site. Laumann hopes this measure will give a “good boost” in booster vaccinations.

According to the NRW Ministry of Health, the districts and independent cities have already been able to apply for and set up permanent vaccination centers at the Ministry of Health. There are already permits for permanent vaccination sites in Bochum, Bonn, Duisburg, Düren, Düsseldorf, Hagen, Cologne, Krefeld, Solingen and Wuppertal.
