▷ Huawei wins four DCS awards for its data center business

02.11.2021 – 02:45

London (ots/PRNewswire)

Huawei has won four awards for its data center business at the prestigious DCS Awards 2021 – an annual international event for the data center industry – including the title “Data Center Facilities Vendor of the Year”. Further successes were the nominations for the project of the year for consolidation / upgrade / refresh of data centers, the innovation of the year in the field of data center energy and the innovation of the year for the cooling of data centers.

Held in London, the DCS Awards are the flagship of the data center industry and recognize product designers, manufacturers and suppliers who have achieved great things in the data center space. Almost 200 companies take part every year. In 2021 there were more award categories than in previous years – a total of 32 – which underlines the crucial importance of data centers in an increasingly intelligently controlled world. In addition to the awards for data center infrastructure and innovations in information technology (IT), the focus in 2021 was on innovations in the areas of energy efficiency and sustainability.

The intelligent data center, the way to the future

Huawei aims to build simple, environmentally friendly, intelligent and reliable low carbon data centers based on an intelligent and modular concept. For this purpose, four key areas are to be reconstructed: architecture, cooling systems, operation and maintenance (O&M) and power supply.

With its commitment to continuous technological innovation, Huawei is recognized by customers, partners and the DCS Awards jury alike, and has been named Data Center Facilities Provider of the Year 2021.

Thanks to their outstanding product performance and services, Huawei’s data center solutions are still very popular and are used in practice in various industries around the world: from cellular operators, Internet service providers (ISPs) and governments to companies in the transportation, finance, Manufacturing and Energy. Global Switch, for example, one of the world’s leading operators of carrier and cloud-neutral data centers, decided to work with Huawei on several important projects. As part of the upgrade of its data center in western Paris, Global Switch used Huawei’s SmartLi uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and built a high-density, efficient, secure and reliable power supply and distribution system for data centers. This project was named “Data Center Consolidation / Upgrade / Refresh Project of the Year” at this year’s DCS Awards.

Constant innovation and technological breakthroughs

In view of the renewed urgency of the CO2 neutrality targets, the establishment of environmentally friendly, energy-saving and efficient data centers is now essential. Huawei has long specialized in innovations that help save energy and reduce power consumption in order to make data centers more efficient. In terms of technological innovation, Huawei’s Smart Converged FusionPower6000 solution and next-generation indirect evaporative cooling are notable examples. As such, they were named “Data Center Power Innovation of the Year” and “Data Center Cooling Innovation of the Year” at the DCS Awards 2021.

Huawei’s Smart Converged FusionPower6000 solution brings a new level of technology integration with high density and efficiency, simplified deployment, and improved security and reliability. Compared to traditional power supply and distribution systems, the efficiency of the power supply for the full link system has increased from 94.5% to 97.8%, which significantly reduces energy consumption and reduces physical space requirements by more than 40%. In terms of operation and maintenance, the introduction of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is changing maintenance, making it proactive and predictive.

Huawei’s indirect evaporative cooling maximizes the use of natural cooling sources and implements continuous cooling through a new innovation in the industry: cold current fusion. Compared to conventional cooling water cooling systems, Huawei’s new solution reduces energy consumption by 32% in an example in Beijing, with 33% less water being used. In addition, Huawei’s AI-based iCooling energy efficiency optimization system improves Power Consumption Effectiveness (PUE) by 8%.

Huawei’s success at the DCS Awards 2021 is a testament to its investments in technology and product convergence and innovation for data centers. Looking to the future, the company will continue down this path and focus on innovation to develop simple, environmentally friendly, intelligent and reliable data center solutions.
