It is important to continue to adhere to the corona protective measures in schools and day care. The statutory accident insurance points this out in view of the increasing number of infections among children and adolescents. According to the RKI, the seven-day incidence among 5 to 14-year-olds in some districts is currently more than 500. *

“Children up to the age of 12 cannot be vaccinated and there are currently far fewer people vaccinated in the group of young people than in older population groups. Children and young people must therefore continue to be particularly protected against corona infection. We therefore demand: In daycare and in schools must continue to be tested regularly and the protective measures must be adhered to, “says Dr. Stefan Hussy, General Manager of the German Statutory Accident Insurance (DGUV). “We are aware that these protective measures are a burden for everyone, but they are necessary, for example, to ensure safe classroom teaching. How important it is, all families have learned in times of lockdown.”

Although children and adolescents have a significantly less severe course of the disease than older people, there are still many unanswered questions about the possible long-term consequences of COVID-19. The statutory accident insurance therefore recommends maintaining the infection protection measures in schools and in child day care facilities in addition to the use of vaccination offers. We also recommend:

  • If possible, keep a distance of at least 1.5 meters
  • Wear mask:
  • For schoolchildren of all grades, the accident insurance recommends wearing medical face masks (mouth and nose protection, MNS) in classroom lessons if the distance of 1.5 meters cannot be maintained
  • Teachers and educational staff should also wear at least MNS or higher quality protective masks if the distance of 1.5 meters cannot be maintained.
  • test regularly
  • Comply with hygiene rules
  • ventilate regularly

Further information on the protective measures in day care and in schools can be found here:

The regulations and ordinances of the federal states must be observed for all infection protection measures.
