Jerome Ianmark Calayagist winner of the S.Pellegrino Young Chef Academy Awards. He represents the United Kingdom and Northern Europe and was able to prevail against 9 other talented chefs from around the world. The prestigious title was awarded during a culinary event in Milan.

An exciting talent search for young chefs took place on Saturday evening October 30th its glamorous climax. To the grand finale of the competition S.Pellegrino Young Chef Academy some of the best young chefs in the world competed against each other. In several cooking rounds they determined the winner of the S.Pellegrino Young Chef Academy Awards 2019-21.

Jerome’s impressive signature dish “Humble vegetables”, which he developed in collaboration with his mentor David Ljunqvist, was convincing across the board. The grand jury praised the choice of ingredients, his skill, his creativity, the special presentation and the message of the dish.

By winning the prestigious title, Jerome moves alongside the previous champions Mark Moriarty (2015), Mitch Lienhard (2016) and Yasuhiro Fujio (2018) into the Hall of Fame of the award. With their achievements, they have all shown the exciting journey culinary art is on and how they want to help shape the future of gastronomy. Jerome was selected by the Grand Jury of the S.Pellegrino Young Chef Academy Award, which is made up of six greats in international gastronomy – Enrico Bartolini, Manu Buffara, Andreas Caminada, Mauro Colagreco, Gavin Kaysen und Clare Smyth. The current edition of the competition had impressive numbers to offer. Out of hundreds of applicants, the best 135 chefs had qualified for the pre-selection. For this preselection, they competed against each other in cooking competitions in twelve regions of the world. Only the winners of these twelve regional competitions were able to advance to the world finals. On the way there, they went through a mentoring program in which they were able to work on the final dishes together with experienced top chefs.

The three-day event ended with a special gala dinner. The world-famous top chef Massimo Bottura and his team – Takahiko Kondo, Riccardo Forapani, Francesco Vincenzi, Jessica Rosval und Bernardo Paladini – also let the guests immerse themselves in the culinary spirit of the S.Pellegrino Young Chef Academy. They experienced a menu that was characterized by talent, creativity, innovation, passion and professionalism.
