What will happen in the coming days and weeks is as unpredictable as the weather in times of climate catastrophe: The only thing that is certain is that the world is about to face a showdown, which will not take on the importance of the events on Beijing’s Tiananmen Square or the Portuguese Carnation Revolution much inferior. Sudan is a hinge between the African and Arab world: what is happening here is being watched with bated breath by 1.5 billion people in more than 60 countries. At stake are two social design models that could not be more contrasting: Here the rule of the people, which at least in its beginnings is still unstable and confusing. There the rule of the military, which promises stability and prosperity, the latter at least for a minority of the population.
