Changde, China (ots/PRNewswire)

The world’s largest slewing tower crane, W12000-450, is in the intelligent tower crane manufacturing facility of Zoomlion Heavy Industry Science & Technology Co., Ltd. (“Zoomlion”; 1157.HK) rolled off the production line in Changde, Hunan Province. Zoomlion specifically designed and built the model for the world’s largest cable-stayed bridge project, the Changzhou-Taizhou Yangtze River Bridge, which connects an expressway, a normal highway and an inter-city railroad.

The W12000-450 has a weight of 4,000 tons and a nominal load moment of 12,000 ton meters. It is the world’s first slewing tower crane in the world that can lift more than 10,000 ton meters. It has a maximum lifting weight of 450 tons and a maximum lifting height of 400 meters, which is equivalent to lifting 300 cars to a height of 130 floors in one train.

The key technologies for the construction of super-large tower cranes are complex and place high demands on safety and reliability. Zoomlion has embraced the challenges of technological innovation and production requirements to venture into the unknown and set new records.

“In the absence of structural patterns to follow, we created a computational platform for structural stiffness, stability and modal analysis,” said Tang Shaofang, Vice President of Zoomlion and General Manager of Zoomlion Construction Hoisting Machinery Company. “The W12000-450 tower crane has adopted several of Zoomlion’s proprietary technologies, including full penetration T-butt welding technology, and has overcome technical difficulties such as cracking in the weld of ultra-thick sheet metal, making the W12000-450 not just one can achieve super-powerful lifting capacity of up to 10,000 tons, but also guarantees safety and reliability during the entire transport, assembly / disassembly and operation. “

The W12000-450 is manufactured in the world’s largest intelligent tower crane factory. It is planned that the plant will manufacture products for construction hoists in the range of 80 to 20,000 ton meters. It is completely digitized and integrates big data analysis, industrial internet, information systems, visualization and more in order to achieve comprehensive networking and human-machine interaction.

Thanks to intelligent, flexible assembly tools, the W12000-450 could be manufactured in just four months – compared to conventional manufacturing techniques that would take at least 12 months.

The demand for super-large tower cranes is increasing as the components are getting heavier, the buildings are getting taller and the bridges are getting wider. The launch of the W12000-450 will not only bring the latest heavy industry solution, but also demonstrate Zoomlion’s industry-leading capabilities in the research and development, design and manufacture of large tower cranes.
