Saudi Arabia’s efforts to reshape the future of tourism were accelerated this week with a number of key projects in Riyadh.

For the first time in the history of the FII, tourism was promoted with the summit, Redesigning tourism – laying the foundations for future success, attended by more than 150 global public and private sector leaders, placed at the center of the global agenda. During the summit, the Ministry of Tourism presented five guidelines for reforming tourism, supported by governments and the private sector and endorsed by the summit participants.

Following the summit, HE Ahmed Al Khateeb, Minister for Tourism of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and HE Maria Reyes Maroto, Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism of the Kingdom of Spain, agreed to work together to build a more resilient, sustainable and inclusive tourism sector that creates prosperity in the long run.

The news comes after Saudi Arabia announced its Sustainable Tourism Global Center, a global coalition that will not only help the industry hit the net zero targets, but also work to make tourism a major one Becomes a growth engine for communities around the world, and works with international partners to provide tools to support the sector in developing countries.

HE Ahmed Al Khateeb, Minister for Tourism of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, said: “This industry is very important. It connects nations, and Saudi Arabia is playing a very important role today by developing a number of projects, including the Sustainable Tourism Global Center, to provide resilience and ensure that tourism continues to grow and offers the opportunities that we all want and need. “

HH Princess Haifa, Vice Minister for Tourism, Saudi Arabia, said:: “We have to improve cooperation, sit down together at the table, listen and understand what the problems are, agree on the problems and determine a way forward. During the financial crisis in 2008 we said that the banks would big to fail. Today I tell the world that tourism is way too big to fail. “

Julia Simpson, President and CEO of the World Travel & Tourism Council added: “Travel and tourism are a driving force of the global economy. At the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, the kingdom brought the public and private sectors together under its G20 presidency. Today they are bringing together the leaders of the travel and tourism industries to revitalize the sector. “
