The world market leader in the language industry welcomes a 20-year-old employee of the language industry from Amazon’s Silicon Valley.
Canary Speech announced on October 28th that Gavin O’Duffy would join the company as Chief Business Officer (CBO). O’Duffy will report directly to Canary Speech CEO Henry O’Connell and will be responsible for the opening of Canary Speech’s European office in Dublin, Ireland.
O’Duffy has spent the past 10 years on Amazon, both in Silicon Valley and in Europe. He was originally hired to develop and manage Amazon’s technical partnerships with global tier 1 wireless carriers for tablets, e-readers and smartphones. He was then selected to be a founding member of the Alexa Voice Service (AVS) technical team, which works with ODMs and system integrators to develop new voice-controlled products. O’Duffy was also responsible for creating, designing, and staffing the Alexa Certification Program for Alexa Integrated Devices. This organization grew into a cross-functional team of over 50 outward-looking engineers, solution architects, and safety engineers. Most recently, he was responsible for the EU’s technical strategy with advisory and professional services, including Alexa for Hospitality.
O’Duffy’s telecommunications career began while working as a network design consultant across Europe and Asia for Ericsson and Vodafone. He then moved to Palo Alto, where he held senior, external roles for Danger, Microsoft and HP and maintained strategic relationships with organizations responsible for government and industrial smartphone approvals. O’Duffy holds a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of York, a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Hull, England, and is a graduate of Stanford University’s Advanced Project Management (APM).
