The Sanitation and Water for All Partnership

New York (ots/PRNewswire)

Sanitation and Water for All is a partner of the very first Water for the climate pavilion on the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26). Curated by 33 organizations, the pavilion will highlight the critical role of water in transformative climate action and provide decision-makers with innovative, science-based advice on mitigating and adapting to climate change.

“An estimated 90% of the problems caused by climate change are water-related and lead to droughts, floods and other extreme weather events. We need decision-makers who prioritize human rights over all other uses and who have climate-friendly strategies, plans and budgets for water and guarantee sanitation, especially for the most vulnerable and marginalized populations, “said Catarina de Albuquerque, executive director of the United Nations-led partnership Sanitation and Water for All. “The very first water pavilion is an unprecedented opportunity to align climate and water policies to achieve human rights, reduce climate risks and raise more money for adaptation. Let us take this opportunity to work together and meet our commitments – for the benefit of all. “

At COP26 and other important events and venues, the SWA partners urge governments to:

  • Improve the efficient use of water resources and prioritize their allocation to competing uses in a way that prioritizes the realization of human rights
  • Ensuring that marginalized groups, including women and children, have access to running water, soap and toilets to protect their health and dignity, which is an essential part of building climate resilience
  • Work with corporations and international financial institutions to accelerate investments in climate resilient water infrastructure and services – especially for countries in vulnerable situations
