Successful partnership celebrates anniversary: 58 million euros have already been raised for worldwide UNICEF programs
The “United Internet for UNICEF” foundation is celebrating its 15th birthday this year. Since its establishment, the foundation has written an extraordinary success story for children in need: through regular calls for donations to the customers of WEB.DE, GMX, 1 & 1 and IONOS as well as additional donations from the United Internet Group, around 58 million euros have been made available for global UNICEF programs .
“United Internet for UNICEF” is a foundation by Ralph Dommermuth. It was launched in 2006 by Tessa Page and Ralph Dommermuth in partnership with the German Committee for UNICEF and United Internet AG. As one of the leading Internet service providers in Germany, United Internet uses its online portals to regularly ask for donations for children in need.
The donations are used to save children’s lives and to provide rapid help in acute emergency and crisis situations – for example after the severe earthquake in Nepal in 2015, in the fight against an impending famine in Yemen, a civil war country, or after the devastating cyclones Idai and Kenneth in Mozambique in 2019, when United Internet for UNICEF was the first organization in the world whose donations reached UNICEF.
Since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, the foundation and its many supporters have made a significant contribution to strengthening UNICEF’s work and alleviating the dramatic consequences of the pandemic for children and their families, for example in India and Venezuela.
During the second corona wave in India at the beginning of this year, the foundation’s support made it possible to improve the oxygen supply in clinics, expand tests and examinations and also strengthen UNICEF programs relating to nutrition, sanitation and child protection.
In Venezuela, thanks to the foundation’s support, UNICEF was able to maintain access to schooling during the pandemic, particularly in remote areas of the country. In addition, funds from the foundation were used to ensure health care for pregnant women and small children and to provide people on site with safe drinking water and hygiene products.
Ralph Dommermuth, CEO of United Internet AG:
“UNICEF and United Internet – that just fits. Who would have thought in the early days of the foundation that we could look back on such an extremely successful 15 years. For us, the great success of the foundation is an incentive to continue to mobilize support and donations for those people who need help: children in need who might otherwise be forgotten. ”
Tessa Page, Chairman of the Board of “United Internet for UNICEF”:
“We started 15 years ago with the vision of making the world a little bit better for particularly disadvantaged children. With education, with more protection from violence, with long-term programs for a better future. The foundation team can be proud of everything that has already been done during this time – especially in the emergency situations in which help was particularly urgent and necessary. I believe that we were able to make a real difference in the lives of many children. That is encouraging, but it also shows me that our work must absolutely continue, because the challenges for children are not getting any less – climate change, structural poverty, countless conflicts and, last but not least, the consequences of the Covid pandemic are threatening the lives and well-being of millions of them. I would like to thank all of them now who will continue to support these children with us in the future. ”
Georg Graf Waldersee, Chairman of the Board of UNICEF Germany:
“For the long-standing partnership with the United Internet for UNICEF ‘foundation and the generous support of our work, UNICEF is extremely grateful to the founder and the foundation. Over the past 15 years, we have been able to meet again and again and especially when help was most urgent Rely on the Foundation In special disaster and emergency situations, UNICEF is there to help the children and their families immediately Page to know. With your support, lives were saved and children were given hope for a healthy, better future. Our special thanks and respect go to the entire team of the foundation and all of its supporters – congratulations! ”
