In the traffic light coalition talks, there are signs of a downsizing of the Bundeswehr. The increase in personnel from currently 183,000 to 203,000 soldiers, as aimed at by the last government, should not be pursued any further. The defense policy spokesman for the AfD parliamentary group, Rüdiger Lucassen, criticizes the indifference and disregard for our armed forces:

“The Union is responsible for the lack of personnel, material and non-material readiness of our Bundeswehr.

Even a modern, digitized and networked army needs enough soldiers to carry out its mission. I see a shortage not only of material, but also of manpower, for example to provide the three divisions promised to NATO by 2032. A further reduction will inevitably lead to a loss of capabilities that our Bundeswehr will not be able to use in an emergency. “
