+++ High incidences, especially among children and adolescents +++ The mask requirement is lifted too early +++

Even before the autumn break, the NRW school ministry had announced that the mask requirement in schools could fall. On Thursday, the schools will be informed about the next steps from November 2nd. In NRW, six municipalities already have a 7-day incidence of more than 100 [1]. In Bavaria, the reintroduction of mouth and nose protection in schools is currently being discussed [2].

the Sandra Leurs from Krefeld, health expert for the Pirate Party Germany comments: “With regard to the 4th wave, I think it is premature and fatal to think about an end to the mask requirement in schools. In North Rhine-Westphalia the incidences are increasing, especially among children and adolescents. Reliable numbers can be expected no earlier than 14 days after the autumn vacation . To avoid school closings this winter, I think mouth and nose protection is necessary. ”

For the PIRATEN NRW it is incomprehensible that, of all people, the mask requirement should be dropped in the age groups with high incidences. There is still no vaccination protection for children under 12 years of age. School Minister Yvonne Gebauer should rethink her plans to prevent the infection in children and adolescents with associated LongCovid diseases.
