For the coming year, the federal government is again forecasting growth of 4.1 percent. But in view of delivery bottlenecks and increasing numbers of infections in the corona pandemic, as Altmaier admits, considerable risks remain. If the development should again fall short of expectations, this would make the work of the next federal government considerably more difficult. A traffic light coalition made up of the SPD, the Greens and the FDP would then have an even harder time raising the billions in investments required for infrastructure, digitization and the fight against climate change. The FDP has pushed through two red lines in tax policy: no tax increases, no loosening of the debt brake. That is exactly why it would only make sense if FDP leader Christian Lindner actually became finance minister himself. Then it would be he who, in case of doubt, would have to say in which ways and detours he would like to enable investments.
