Dubious animal dealer or scheming innkeeper: the actor Arved Birnbaum liked to have shady roles and became famous with them. As it has now become known, the 59-year-old died on Sunday after a serious illness in Cologne.
The television actor Arved Birnbaum is dead. He died on Sunday at the age of 59 after a short serious illness in the Cologne University Hospital, his wife Sabine Birnbaum told the dpa news agency.
Born in Lusatia, he liked to be cast in shady roles. In August of this year, television viewers saw him as a dubious animal dealer in the ZDF series “A case for two”. In 2015 he was a scheming innkeeper in the thriller series “Weinberg” (TNT series). “Lindenstrasse” fans may still know him from 1999 in the role of neo-Nazi Hartung. In the Cologne “Tatort”, however, he was a police officer, in several cases played the main master Heinz Obst. In 2010, Birnbaum also worked on Dominik Graf’s multi-part series “In the face of crime”.
In 1997 he switched to television
Birnbaum began classical acting training, played in the theater and switched to film and television productions in 1997. “The culmination of his acting career began with getting to know Dominik Graf, who cast him for several of his productions,” reminded Birnbaum’s agency. She quoted Graf as saying: “Arved makes every supporting role the main role.”
