FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced on October 20th that Hisense, a global technology leader, would be the official sponsor of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. He said: “With Hisense’s premium products and cutting-edge technologies, we expect to work together through technological innovation to create an unforgettable football experience for fans around the world.” By sponsoring successive European and World Championships, Hisense has emerged as the only Chinese company to sponsor world-class events for four consecutive years.
Major global sporting events have always provided an unprecedented opportunity for the demonstration and promotion of innovative display and broadcast technologies. In April 2017, Hisense and FIFA entered into a partnership for the first time, under which FIFA commissioned Hisense to broadcast live sporting events and develop advanced display products. The viewing experience for football fans around the world has been greatly enhanced with the introduction of Hisense’s official World Cup television. The device has been customized through the application of a number of advanced technologies, including Motion Estimation and Motion Compensation (MEMC), Sports Mode, Face Recognition to identify football players, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) assisted interactive image search. “FIFA and Hisense will join forces to bring an even more immersive viewing experience to fans around the world through technology and innovation,” said Infantino.
FIFA and Hisense had already worked together during the 2018 World Cup in Russia. They will work even more closely together during the 2022 World Cup, involving more products and stakeholders than they did during the event in Russia. “FIFA knows that Hisense has always placed great emphasis on energy saving, environmental protection and sustainable recycling. This commitment is reflected in the research and development, production, sale and recycling of products as the two companies continue to work together deepen, “explained Infantino. “The laser television developed by Hisense reduces power consumption by more than 50 percent compared to conventional LCD televisions – a factor that will have a significant impact on consumers’ purchasing decisions.”
“We are one year ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, an event that will be an unforgettable experience for both the host country and football fans around the world,” continued Infantino. FIFA is committed to promoting the advancement of science and technology through the power of football to have a positive impact on society. With the support of Hisense, the aim is to make the World Cup in Qatar a visual festival that will be remembered as a truly iconic sporting event.
