Unterföhring, October 25, 2021 – Five games, five wins – the Edmonton Oilers with German superstar Leon Draisaitl got off to a perfect start to the season and confirmed their claim to belong to the extended circle of Stanley Cup contenders. Sky has been actively following the Oilers’ journey since this NHL season and has secured extensive broadcast rights to the NHL.

Sky is showing games by Leon Draisaitl with his Edmonton Oilers twice this week. The Philadelphia Flyers will play on Thursday night and the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday night.

NHL Saturday mit Nashville Predators gegen New York Islanders

The weekly highlight of the NHL includes “NHL Saturday” and “NHL Sunday” at particularly attractive live broadcast times for the European audience. On “NHL Saturday”, Sky commentator Christoph Stadtler welcomes the audience from 7.30pm on Sky Sport 2 when the Nashville Predators meet the New York Islanders. Then the Los Angeles play against the Montreal Canadiens (from 10 p.m.), the Toronto Maple Leafs play against the Detroit Red Wings (from 1 a.m.) and the Vancouver Canucks play against the Edmonton Oilers (from 4 a.m.).

German ice hockey fans can expect two more live games on Sunday evening at prime time. At 6:00 p.m., the Carolina Hurricanes and the Arizona Cowboys play against each other. And at 9 p.m. there will be a duel between the Anaheim Ducks and the Montreal Canadiens.

The NHL on Sky:

Leon Draisaitl and the best ice hockey league in the world now have a new home. Sky Deutschland has extensive broadcasting rights to the National Hockey League (NHL) and will broadcast the North American ice hockey league live in Germany, Austria, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein and South Tyrol in the seasons 2021/22 up to and including 2024/25. The new contract includes broadcasting rights across all channels.

With the live broadcast of around 300 games per season, Sky will offer its customers more NHL matches than ever before on German television in the next four seasons. This includes regular season games and the Stanley Cup playoffs, including the NHL Winter Classic, the NHL All-Star Game and all the games in the Stanley Cup Finals. In addition, Sky will regularly show NHL Saturday and NHL Sunday (formerly European NHL Game of the Week), during which games take place on the weekends with consideration for international ice hockey fans in European evenings.

With a few exceptions, the games selected by Sky will be shown exclusively on Sky in Germany. All other NHL encounters that Sky does not broadcast live will continue to be available to fans via nhl.tv. All games are broadcast with the original English commentary. In addition, selected games, which also include games from NHL Saturday and NHL Sunday as well as the Stanley Cup Playoffs, will also be accompanied by German commentary.
