The fundraising campaign, which was launched in July 2021 for employees of cooperatives affected by the flood disaster, has been successfully completed. A total of 520,000 euros from over 420 donors were raised. The money was paid out to 174 employees of cooperatives, graduated according to the degree to which they were affected. The recipients of donations included employees from agricultural cooperatives as well as from cooperative winegrowers’ associations or Volks- and Raiffeisenbanks in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate.
“We received many thank-you discs from donation recipients who were very impressed by the cooperative support. With this gesture of solidarity, we were able to convey some hope in the very difficult time for the people,” explains Dr. Henning Ehlers, General Manager of the German Raiffeisen Association (DRV).
The campaign “Severe weather disaster 2021 – cooperatives help” was initiated by the German Raiffeisen Association, the German Cooperative and Raiffeisen Association and the Cooperative Association – Association of Regions. The Raiffeisen Foundation took over the organization. In addition to this financial support, cooperatives are still involved in the flood areas with know-how and equipment.
Another cooperative relief campaign has also started successfully: Here additional donations of 117,000 euros were collected, which are used to support special projects in the flood areas. It all started with a circus project in the Ahr valley set up by the Johanniter Regional Association for the Middle Rhine: Since the beginning of October, children and young people in particular have been helped to deal with the traumatic events with sports and games as well as accompanying psychological care. As a second project, a non-profit organization for people with disabilities in the particularly affected Ahr valley is to be supported in making the facility in the new building completely barrier-free as soon as possible after the previously used one had fallen victim to the flood.
About the DRV

As an important link in the food value chain, the 1,766 DRV member companies in the production, trading and processing of plant and animal products with around 92,000 employees achieve a turnover of 64.5 billion euros. Farmers, gardeners and winemakers are the members and therefore owners of the cooperatives.
