-The World Industrial Design Conference (WIDC) of 2021 was successfully held from October 22nd to October 24th in Yantai, Shandong Province. The event was sponsored by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the People’s Government of Shandong Province and sponsored by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of Shandong Province, the China Industrial Design Association and the Yantai City Government with the support of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Global Design Industry Organization (GDIO). WIDC is the world’s largest trade fair for industrial design and the only event for the industrial design sector that is financially supported by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People’s Republic of China.

According to the WIDC Organizing Committee, WIDC 2021 brought together representatives from government agencies, industrial organizations, experts and scientists, entrepreneurs, designers and other innovators from more than 40 countries and regions under the motto “Design drives the age of digital intelligence”. This was made possible by a combination of online and offline means and allowed a lively exchange of information and knowledge, discussions, exchange of views and cooperation around the innovation and development of industrial design in the age of digital intelligence.

It brought together the innovative design achievements of more than 100 manufacturing companies, design institutes, universities and other organizations from around the world and presented the new ideas, new designs and new industries of outstanding industrial design from home and abroad. The focus was on the subjects of design and industry, design and intelligence, design and education, design and innovative thinking, design and sustainability, design and culture as well as design and sport and a few other areas. There were four exhibition areas: International Design, University Design, Corporate Design and Shandong Design, which featured over 1,000 innovative design achievements from nearly 200 world-famous companies.

Yantai, one of the three core areas of the comprehensive experimental zone for the transition from old to new economic engines in Shandong Province, pursues a combination of industrial design with upgrading industrial development and enhancing the charm of urban development. She proposed the creation of a City of Design and the planning and construction of a Design Park. Industrial design is well on the way to becoming Yantai City’s new calling card. Going forward, Yantai plans to gradually create a world-class industrial design landmark – a highland of innovation that the world’s designers will strive for by designing and building a world-class innovation, human and environmental ecology.
