Over 1,600 children and young people in around 20 libraries in Germany, Austria and Switzerland decided on this year’s winners of the German children’s software award TOMMI. This year the award was presented for the second time on October 24th in the media magazine “Team Timster” (KiKA / rbb / NDR).

In the console category, “Super Mario 3D World & Bowser’s Fury” (Nintendo) secured first place. “Fling To The Finish” (Daedalic) was convincing in the PC games and “The Olchis – Tower for Kids” (Fox & Sheep) scored points in the app category. The interactive family game “DKT-Smart” (Wiener Spielkartenfabrik / Piatnik) was selected from the electronic toys category. “Investnuts” (VisualVest) won the education category, and “It Takes Two” (Electronic Arts) won the USK 12 category. The “Our Sandman app” received the special prize “Kindergarten and Preschool” as the best offer.

For the first time, ten nominated PC games were checked for their accessibility in close cooperation with the inclusive project Gaming Without Borders. 20 young people with and without restrictions explored which games are suitable for this purpose in tests. “Townscaper” by Raw Fury was particularly convincing.

The children’s software award “TOMMI” is published by the office for children’s media FEIBEL.DE in Berlin. The award partners include the Auerbach Foundation, the German Library Association (dbv), Deutschlandfunk Kultur, the Frankfurt Book Fair, jugendschutz.net, ZDF and KiKA.
