With an appreciation of his eight and a half years of commitment, the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund celebrated Franz Müntefering as President of the ASB today in Cologne. Franz Müntefering took over the voluntary work in April 2013.

The ASB federal chairman Knut Fleckenstein thanked Franz Müntefering for his many years of commitment to the aid and welfare organization: “To help and to be helped, that is the central principle of human coexistence for you – and you acted accordingly.” Fleckenstein thanked Müntefering for his impetus for the work of the association and his active contribution. “In winter you distributed soup and sleeping bags to the homeless with us, mixed with the rescue workers at the federal exercise in Leipzig, bravely raised your voice against right-wing populism, campaigned for diversity, palliative care and hospice work, and above all the ASB – Wish wagon as patron, the door and gate open. ”

The ASB honored Franz Müntefering with the ASB Gold Cross of Honor, the highest award of the association, when he left. When the award was presented, Fleckenstein said that Müntefering had the ASB’s motto “We help here and now!” lived sincerely and brought the high value of helpfulness and assistance to society.

Müntefering called the diverse work of the ASB “organized solidarity”. “The ASB is an important and exemplary social force of our democracy, all full-time employees, volunteers and members can be proud of its work and their part in it.” The 81-year-old will remain ideally connected to the association: “I am and will remain a worker Samaritan”.
